COMMUNITY EVENT: CRUSHING IMPOSTOR PHENOMENON IN GRADUATE SCHOOL

Do you experience feelings of isolation and imposter phenomenon in graduate school? If you’re unsure, you can take this test to find out: http://impostortest.nickol.as/. Most graduate students do, but not many talk about it.

We are inviting you to join the conversation by – “Crushing Imposter Phenomenon in Science”!

This initiative is funded by the Graduate and Life Sciences Education (GLSE) through the Graduate Student Wellness Grant and is aimed towards minimizing patterns of Imposter Phenomenon, through a series of seminars and workshops for graduate students in the Faculty of Medicine. We aim to highlight diversity in science by encompassing a diverse group of speakers, including under-represented groups with regards to ethnic background, physical ability, socio-economic background, sexual orientation, and gender identity. For each event, selected speakers will present their experience as a minority in their field and provide tips for students facing Imposter Phenomenon. Seminars will be followed by a workshop geared towards hands-on and reflective activities to enable students to solidify take-home tips and tools.

How can you participate?
  1. Attend an event: Our next event will be held in August with two fantastic speakers lined up. We also have events bi-monthly with new speakers for each session!
  2. Join our team: Time is very flexible and we’re a welcoming group of grad students at UofT looking for additional help run these events. Email us at [email protected] to get involved!
  3. Be a speaker: We are always on the lookout for speakers from under-represented groups who are interested in sharing their experience with Imposter Phenomenon as a minority in their field and tips for students facing Imposter Phenomenon. Individuals from all fields and stages of their career are welcome! Please email us: [email protected]!
